SCHOOL NEWS
Due to weather conditions, we returned to school a little later than planned on January 13th.. A group along with Ms. Ryder attended the Young Scientist Exhibition in Dublin. They presented their projects to science classes in the school when they returned. U14 girls attended a Junior Blitz in Ballina and came third overall. January 27th Transition Years had their Market Day in the Gym Hall. Catholic Schools Week was held from January 31st to February 6th. Catholic Schools Week helps to highlight the Catholic identity of the school - a sense of community, a faith filled culture, equality and charity. The school had various activities during the week to highlight this theme and Mass was celebrated with the Primary school on February 3rd for St. Claudines Feast Day . Mr. Killeen resigned from his teaching position here in the school. He was appointed Principal in Lacken Cross Vocational School. February 1st and 2nd students attended a Study Seminar. There have been inservices in DCG; Maths; Religion, for the mentor programme for newly qualified teachers, teachers attended a regional cluster meeting in Castlebar organised by Lé Cheile; there was a AMCSS workshop for Principals in Dublin. There was a Lé Cheile Trust conference in Dublin and the launch of the Lé Cheile Trust. When the tragic events unfolded in Haiti, staff and students were straight into action- students held a non-uniform day and staff had a collection. Sr. Angeles Alino, Superior General of the Jesus and Mary Congregation and Sr. Monica Joseph, General Councillor visited the school and met with staff and students. Leaving Cert Art Mocks took place in February. Sixth Year LCVP students had their interviews as part of their LCVP exam. Transition Years participated in the Junior Achievement Ireland Programme in Sligo IT. Fifth Year Geography class went to Belmullet and visited the Shell Terminal. The talent night was held in the school hall, students demonstrated their skills in song, dance and music. Well done to all who participated and helped organise the event. Retreats were held for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Years in Knock, for Transition Years in Holy Hill Hermitage in Skreen and for 5th Years in Ballintubber Abbey. Second Year Art class visited the Jack B. Yeats exhibition in the Ballina Arts Centre on February 12th. Senior boys gaelic football team played in the Connaught semi final and won and went through to the final where they lost against Belmullet. Junior boys soccer played Moyne College and won. U14 boys had a successful rugby match in Sligo. First and Second Year boys attended a Gaelic blitz in Quigabar. Junior boys played games against Belmullet and Ballygar and then went through to the Connaught final where they lost out to Belmullet. First Year boys played a successful game against Belmullet. LCVP students organised a soccer blitz for juniors. Girls Active group went to Sligo and participated in various activities as part of the Girls Active Programme. During February we held our Mock Exams for Junior and Leaving Certificate students. Students from the Student Council were invited to the Connaught/Ulster Confernece of the European Youth Parliament in Galway. Doctors and Nurses from the HSE came to the school in March to give any staff and students who wished to avail of the FLU vaccination. The Fifth Year Sliver Gáisce group and Transition Years went to Killary Adventure Centre as part of their Gáisce Training. There was a presentation to parents of Third Years on Transition Year. Transition Year Mini Company went to Sligo to display their projects. Students~ Fiona Igoe and Gary Cawley attended the Bank of Ireland Award Ceremony in Galway for students who achieved significant awards. Foróige presented a programme to Second Years on drugs and alcohol. We had Orals in Irish, French and German for Leaving and Junior Certs. Practicals in Music, Construcion Studies and Home Economics. Leaving and Junior Cert Art Exams. LCVP Exam. Transtition Years went to Bundoran as part of their Junior Achievement Project. The school is participating in the Sligo Sport Cross-Border initiative. The first meeting and jamboree for pupils was held in Enniskillen. On April 29th we had a staff meeting in the morning followed by a Parent/Teacher/Student Meeting for parents of TY and Sixth Years. There was a subject inspection in DCG and Technical Graphics. In May First and Second Years had their tour, they went to Belfast. PLC assessments took play during May. The FETAC external examiner was in the school looking at PLC exam work. Forty students attended atheletics in Athlone, three are through to the All Ireland. Gáisce Awards took place in Sligo. Transition year held their exhibition and graduation. TY Religion class raised 418 euro for past pupils Siobhán Hale and Christina Sayers who are volunteering in an Aids Hospice in Zambia. A Healthy schools inspection took place in the school. We were awarded the Greens Schools Flag. We held our Prize Giving - students were awarded medals/certs in the categories of academic, extra curricular, attendance. We had tests for First, Second, Transition and Fifth Year students and Portfolio assessments for TY's. There was a staff meeting for staff on May 4th.

Best Wishes to Mr. Killeen who was appointed Principal in Lacken Cross Vocational School. He taught here in Enniscrone for twelve years and has been an invaluable member of staff, as well as being a great teacher. He coached boys Gaelic Football and had great successes, he brought the boys through to many finals and won the Connaugt Championship. He also sat on the Parents Council. He will be missed by both staff and students. We would like to wish him every happiness in his future. Mr. Killeen pictured above with students.
Bank of Ireland Award Ceremony
Gary Cawley and Fiona Igoe attended the Bank of Ireland Award Ceremony in Galway for students who achieved significant awards. Gary Cawley received an award for community services and Fiona Igoe received an award for Art.
LCVP Online
Transition Year and Fifth Year students along with LCVP coordinator Ms.Mohan participated in a pilot programme in connection with the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP). LCVP students began using - Moodle, a virtual learning environment. Moodle has become very popular among educators around the world as a tool for creating online dynamic web sites for their students and it is the first time our school has adopted such a learning tool. The focus of the Moodle project was on creatng the best tools to manage and promote learning. Well done to all the students in the Computer Club who got involved. Thanks to Coordinator Ms.Mohan.

The schools Healthy Schools team organised an egg painting competition at Easter time. All Second Year students were involved. Transition Year students perpared the eggs. Well done to Aoife Mulrooney who won overall. Great fun was had by all.
Healthy Schools
There were many events organised over the course of the Healthy Schools Week. Well done to the Healthy Schools Committee on all their hard work in organising events such as - making Smoothies picture left and Mental Health right. There were also guest speakers including a beautician, members from Bord Bia and Mental Health Ireland.
Well done to FIONA COYNE winner of an IPOD Touch phone. Fiona entered a competition for Healthy Schools - Fiona completed a project on brain injury awareness.

LCVP Soccer Blitz for the Irish Cancer Society
Well done to LCVP students -Georgia McNish-Tivnan, Alison Ray, Laura O'Donnell, Barry Judge & Paul Tighe, who raised 150 euro for the Irish Cancer Society by holding a soccer blitz for Second Year students.
Access Schools Programme Special Awards
The inaugural Access Schools Programme 2010 Third year special awards was held in St. Angelas College, Sligo on May 7th. This Programme operates in primary and secondary schools. It aims to encourage and aid students to progress to third level education. St. Angelas supports students and aims to create a positive experience of third level education through various interactions and supports. The awards are a chance to celebrate the achievements of hardworking Third Year students in the fields of Maths, Science, Irish, English, Home Economics and Essay Writing. Those who received awards were Dylan Murray for Science, Clodagh Culkin for Mathematics, Maria Naughton for Home Economics, pictured above, Ronan Caheny for Irish and Treverr Gray for English.
Sr. Angeles Alino, Superior General of the Jesus and Mary Congregation and Sr. Monica Joseph, General Councillor visited the school and met with staff and students. They spoke of the work of the Jesus and Mary Mission in 28 countries. They attended a concert given by students and they received a donation of 2000 euro from staff and students for the Haitian earthquake appeal.
Green Schools
The school was awarded its third Green Flag this year. Ms. Ryder with two students attended an Environmentalist Awards Ceremony in the Galway Bay Hotel where they received the Green Flag from An Táisce. Well done to Ms. Ryder and the Greens Schools Commitee and the entire school body on their contribution in making the school environmentally friendly. Transition Year Page
Transition Year is a busy year with students partaking in various modules and activites. This year they started a new module in TY under the guidance of our Principal Sr. Mary, the module was Conflict Management. Students found this a valuable module as it advises students in dealing with conflict in a mature and non-aggressive way. This knowledge and experience will stand to them all though their lives. Ms. Timmons has also been keeping TY's busy, she has run modules in Pilates; Soccer; Athletics and much more. Mr. Saunders completed ongoing geographical and historical research of the local area. The information collected resulted in a booklet being printed and sold. It was very successful. Ms. Ryder worked with students in science, she helped them put together several projects, which were selected for the Young Scientist Exhibition. Ms. Mulcaire and Mr. Costello presented St. Vincent dePaul project together with students. In February students attended workshops in Sligo IT with Junior Achievement Ireland. Students went on Retreat to Holy Hill in Skreen. On March 24th and 25th students who took up the Gaisce Challenge at Bronze level attended a two-day venture in Killary Adventure Centre. Many events took place throughout the months - Mini Market Day in the Hall, students sold products they made in their Mini Company classes with Ms. Ryan and Ms. Kilcullen. They entered their products in the Student Enterprise Awards sponsored by the Sligo Enterprise Board. They were awarded best stand and received one hundred euro and a trophy. Transition Years organised a Talent Show for all students, thanks to Ms. Moore for her help. Under the guidance of Ms. Murphy students were on Work Experience every Friday since they returned in January and it was very successful with students getting invaluable experience of the world of work. A driving module took place in May, with students getting driving experience after learning theory about safety on our roads. Now that we are at the year end students had tests, interviews have taken place and students were evaluated on their Portfolio work, which they put together to demonstrate all the work they have done and all they had achieved throughout the year. Well done to all students who worked so hard throughout the year and dedicated themselves to so many of the opportunites that TY has offered them. Many thanks to Ms. Clarke for her hard work and dedication and to all the TY teachers who work so hard keeping this year exciting and interesting for students and to the whole school community who support all the events organised - production, talent night, market day etc.

POST LEAVING CERTIFICATE COURSES
Congratulations to Ms. Mohan who took over as PLC Coordinator this year, on
her success in organising the course. Ms. Mohan worked hard along with the
other PLC tutors to make the course a success. Well done to our PLC students
on their achievements. Our PLC Course goes from strength to strength every
year, this year over 100 students enrolled to do various courses. New to the
course this year was Digital Photography and Beginners Computers both were
hugely successful. Please find photographs of students at work below. The
Post Leaving Certificate Programme is available to adults of all ages. The
programme aims to prepare students for the world of work or to enable them to apply for entry into certain Certificate/Diploma courses in 3rd level Colleges. It is suitable for students who wish to defer 3rd level for a year.

STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council attended outside events such as *Comhairle na nÓg in Sligo and we have three elected members on the Sligo Youth Council. *Four students attended the European Union Youth Forum in Galway. *A youth drama in the Ocean Sands in Enniscrone organised by Sligo County Council. The Council communicated with schools structures (i) they met two members of the Le Chéile Trust; (ii) they wrote a letter on behalf of the student body regarding the Castlefield to the Community Council. (iii) they wrote a letter regarding class allocation in Fifth Year to Management; (iv) they attended the final staff meeting, to outline their constitution and discuss activities. Improvements were made on publicising activities. Reports were displayed on the Council noticeboard. A raffle was held at the Transition Year Talent Night. Students Emma Mulrooney, Shona Kilgannon, Áine Ryan and Fiona Coyne represented our school at the European Youth Parliament in Galway. The Connaught/Ulster Regional Conference was held in February. At the conference they researched and debated issues such as Third World Development. They found the conference interesting and beneficial. Well Done to all on the Council! And thanks to Ms. Kenny, coordinator.
Trócaire Fast
Congratulations to students from First and Second Year who participated in the Trócaire Fast and raised 660.50 euro. Special recognition was given to Elizabeth Dunphy and Áine Ryan, who raised large sums of money. Students pictured below with Ms. Mulvanny.

TY's visited Abbotts in Sligo with Ms. Ryan. The trip was organised in conjunction with Junior Achievement Ireland.
Girls Active
This is a HSE funded programme aimed at promoting physical activity among teenage girls. The TY and Fifth Year girls who participated in the programme attended the Girls Active Festival in Sligo along with their coordinator Ms. Mohan. Throughout the year the girls enjoyed various activities ~ aerobics, modern dance, boxercise etc.
First and Second Year Tour to Belfast
On May 25th First and Second Years went to Belfast for their school tour. Students visited W5 - a science exhibition where students experienced over 190 interactive exhibits. They also got to do a bit of retail therapy at the Victoria Square shopping centre.
Talent Night
We held a Talent Night in the Hall. Students had an opportunity to display their talents. They did not disappoint, we have many talented students. Pictured left two of the acts that showed their talents on the night and below right the men who helped make it happen, working hard backstage was Richard Coleman, Mr. Rooney, Michael Dunphy, Darragh Gilmartin and Barry Judge.
